It is now confirmed that both Ypthima imitans and Ypthima motscholskyi are in Hong Kong.

It seems Ypthima imitans prefer higher grounds on Lantau Island. In fact both species are found almost in the same area on Lantau Island.

The genitalia below of Y. imitans is confirmed by Dr. Yoshinobu Uémura. I wish to thank Dr. Uémura for his kind assistance.

Workshop on Insect Specimens (members only)

A joint workshop with the Entomological Society of Hong Kong is set on 29th August, 2015 (Sat), 15:00 – 17:30 pm

The workshop will be on : collecting insects, killing insects, temporary storage, pinning, bottling, labeling, long-term storage, postage and genitalia dissection demonstration. If time permits, Mr. Vor Yiu would also like to share his five days experience in MNHN (one of the largest insect specimens collection in the world).

At HKLS office : Unit B, 17/F,  Kin Ga Industrial Building, 9 San On Street, Tuen Mun. (five mins walk from Tuen Mun West Railway Station)

昆虫標本製作工作坊(僅學會會員)

香港鱗翅目學會與香港昆蟲學會聯合舉辦定於2015年8月29日（星期六），下午15:00 – 17:30

本工作坊的內容包括：昆蟲的蒐集、處理，臨時及永久的保存方法，插針、裝瓶、標籤，郵寄和解剖生殖器的示範。如時間許可，饒戈老師將和大家分享於MNHN 的五天體驗經歷(世界最大的昆蟲標本收藏館之一)

地點於香港鱗翅目學會會址：  屯門新安街9號堅基工業大廈17樓B室( 屯門西鐵站步行約五分鐘)

“The complete mitochondrial genome of Hasora vitta (Butler, 1870) (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae)“.

Abstract: The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Hasora vitta was sequenced and analyzed in the study. The mitogenome is 15282bp in size, including 37 genes and a putative control region. Thirteen protein-coding genes all start with a typical ATN codon, expect that COI gene uses CGA as its initial codon. Majority of the 13 PCGs have a complete termination codon (TAA or TAG) except for COII and ND4 have a single T residue. All tRNAs have typical clover-leaf secondary structure, except for tRNASer(AGN), in which the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm is a simple loop. In the sampled species of Hesperiidae, Hasora vitta, Choaspes benjaminii, Ampittia dioscorides, the remaining sampled species, Celaenorrhinus maculosus (Daimio tethys, Ctenoptilum vasava), Potanthus flavus (Polytremis nascens, Ochlodes venata), are recovered in phylogenetic analyses with high supports.

HKLS is planning to do a joint workshop with the Entomological Society of Hong Kong on the genitalia dissection and preparation of wing venation for close examination.
